Key ключ (фр. clef): Очень распространённая фигура в символах церковной геральдики (епископства, приходы), особенно таких, которые находятся под патронажем Св.Петра; в других гербах ключ используется предположительно, чтобы указать на должность определённого ранга. Одиночные ключи обычно располагаются в столб, и т.к. два ключа могут быть расположены множеством способов, то их расположение должно быть оговорено. Чаще всего они скрещиваются (in saltire, fr. passées en sautoir), но могут быть расходящимися (addorsed, fr. adossées). Далее необходимо указать положение (с какой стороны изображена) бородки ключа (wards, fr. pannetons). Когда направление не задано ключ изображается прями (erec), т.е. с головкой в основании. Ключи могут переплетаться (interlaced) своими кольцами (in the bows или rings).
