Фигура [почти?] не представленна в ранних гербах, но позднее весьма распространёна в самых разных видах. Особенно часто она встречается в качестве щитодержателя. Часто это дикарь (savage; более нейтральные термины: wild-man – дикий человек, wood-man – лесной человек) с листьями, покрывающими его голову и чресла, обычно, держащий дубину. Человек часто изображён нагим, или с повязкой на бёдрах, как в случае с дикарём. Караульный (Watchman), в гербе города Warwick, должен быть изображён как солдат. В гербе Miners' Company, в описании щитодержателей, указывается шахтёр (см. Mine). Изображения людей часто связаны с указанием на их национальность: африканец – african, negro см.ст. Cinnamon; мавр – moor; арап – blackamoor; индеец/индиец – Indian; белуджистанский солдат – beloochee soldier; датский воин – danish warrior, и т.д. Фигура человека может быть представлена в разных положениях, например фигурой в одном гербе служит повешенный на виселице. См.стт. Armour, Head.

Во французской геральдике встречается латник в полном вооружении (homme d'armes, man in armour), но в целом, изображений людей не так много, исключая фигуру дикаря (sauvage).
