Plume Плюмаж. Естественно, что перья чаще использовались как нашлемники и фигурные девизы, а не в роли гербовых фигур, три и более перьев вместе называются плюмажем (plume, фр. panache). Самый известный пример плюмажа – три страусовых пера Принца Уэлльского, специфический знак отличия члена королевской семьи. Известная легенда, что Принц Эдуард взял эти перья со шлема короля Богемии Иоанна Люксембурского в битве при креси (24 августа 1346 г.) едва ли выдержит проверку, или что девиз «Ich Dien» служит напоминанием о богемском правителе, служившем французкому королю как наёмник (stipendiary); их происхождение достоверно не установлено. Когда в плюмаже более трёх перьев, их число должно указывать, но весьма распространено размещение перьев рядами, которые рядои герольдов описываются как «so many heights». Когда таких уровней более трёх, говорят о пирамиде перьев (pyramid of feathers). Пример этого – нашлемник MORTIMER, хотя ряд геральдистов описывает его как пирмиду листьев (pyramid of leaves).

Иногда помещается одно перо, нередко проходящее через свиток, нпр. и бэдже John of Gaunt, также как и вего щите. См. т.ж. Pen. В случае когда ствол пера (quill) отличен по цвету от остального пера, он оптсывается как «penned», «quilled» или «shafted».
