Cod Треска Изображение различных сортов рыбы не всегда соответствует действительности, хотя название даётся при блазонировании. Треска, хек, щука, мерланг Cod, the Hake, the Ling, and the Whiting (все принадлежат к семейству Gadidœ) встречаются в гербах. Хек более тонкий, узкий, и сравнительно больше в области головы, чем треска, но при изображении это не выдерживается, и часто наблюдается использование изображения рыбы в связи с похожестью фамилии (игра слов).

«Vert, three hakes hauriant argent» – DONEY. [Blazoned sometimes as breams.]

Пикша haddock (все рыбы, относящиеся к этому разделу рыб) не встречается в гербах, но есть в нашлемнике семьи of HADDOCK, Lancashire, -

Разновидности щуки ling называют иногда the burbot (налим), но он живёт в пресной воде, также называют the coney fish, и предположительно, что эти названия нашли отражение в следующем гербе.
