Child Children, bays and infants Дети, мальчики и младенцы представлены в геральдике начиная с 16в., в огромном количестве вариантов. Возможно, наиболее старые – те, где орёл выхватывает ребёнка из колыбели cradle, что случалось в некоторых семьях, и это по-разному изображено в гербах ветвей этой семьи. Конечно, такие гербы легко сочетались с традицией, но обсуждение этого едва ли находтися в рамках глоссария. Более часто встречаются просто детские головы (heads, см.)

«Argent, an eagle sable, crined gules, standing on a child proper, swathed or lying in a cradle vert» – COULCHIEFE.

«Azure, an eagle preyant sable upon a child swaddled gules» – CULCHETH, Lancaster.

«Argent, a tree eradicated sable; on it a nest of the first, in which is a child proper, swaddled gules, seized on by an eagle volant of the second.» – RISLEY.

Трое детей в бочке tub (или подобной ёмкости) обычно указывают на чудо Св. Николая, который воскресил их после того, как они были убиты и засолены; и в знаке Каферды в Абердине епископ представлен как молящийся за них. (См. ст. Bishop). Некая любопытная легенда должна объяснять происхождение следующего.

«Sable, a goat argent, attired or, standing on a child proper, swaddled gules, and feeding on a tree vert» – DAVIES, Hope, Co. Montgomery.

Ещё один пример (возможно W. de ALBINI) из герба Richard BARNES, Bishop of Carlisle, в котором раздетый ребёнок, обращённый лицом вперёд, представлен в данном случае как держащий в обеих руках язык медведя. Следующее описание –единственное.

«Azure, on a bend argent, between two estoiles or, a bear passant sable, semie des estoiles of the third, ready to devour a naked child of the fourth; on a chief of the second, three roses gules radiated with rays of the sun proper» – Richard BARNES, Bp. of Carlisle, 1570; Bp. of Durham, 1577-87.
