Видимо представляет собой вселенную (Universe) и обычно увенчана крестом. Впервые используется императором Юстинианом, и приносится в Англи. королём Эдуардом Исповедником (Edward the Confessor), на печати которого выглядит как простой шар. Крестом он увенчивается на печати Вильгельма Завоевателя (William the Conqueror). Крест означает возвышение христианства по все земле и упоминается в коронационной службе следующим образом: «And when you see this orb set under the cross remember that the whole world is subject to the power and empire of Christ our Redeemer ».
