Дерево часто встречающееся в гербах, возможно в силу созвучия с родовыми именами. Это справедливо собственно для ясеня (лат. fraxinus). В случае с рябиной (mountain ash) используется название rowan-tree и, однажды, rodey.

Плоды ясеня (крылатки, собранные в метёлки) называются «ashen keys».
