ROUNDLES. Round figures which may be charged with any figure, (e.x., P. 2, f. 45). In blazon change their names according to the different tinctures of which they are composed, except when they are counter-changed as e.x. P. 2, f. 39, when

Общее наименование для помещаемых в герб кружков, которвм также даются и специфические наименования сообразно их окраске. Похоже, однако, в древности использование термина не зависело от окраски, как следует из приведённых примеров: Золотой кружок. В гербовнике времён правления Генриха III, название «bezanté» встречается три, четыре раза, но термин «bezant» не используется. Во времена Эдварда II мы имеем «bezans d'or», в поэме Осада Карлеверока и в гербовнике времён Эдуарда III – «besant» (золотой цвет подразумевается). Во времена Эдвардов II и III – «rondels d'or»,в поэме – «gasteaus d'or», и и в гербовнике времён Эдуарда III – «pelots d'or». Серебряный кружок. Генрих III – «torteux d'argent» и «gastelles d'argent»; Эдуард II и III – «pelotes d'argent»; и Эдуарда Edward II – «rondels d'argent». Червлёный кружок. Генрих III – «torteux de gules», Эдуард II и III – «rondels de gules». Современные английские правила ограничивают число специальных наименований следующими цветами:

Sable – – – either Pellets, Ogresses or Gunstones.

Большинству этих терминов есть множество примеров. Есть также кружки редких цветов «sanguine” и «tenné», которые поздними герольдами были названы «guzes» и «oranges». Французы как правило используют термин «besants» для металлических кружков, а «tourteaux» - для вего остального; но позднее последний термин стали распространять вообще на все тинктуры. Иногда используются наименования « heurtes», «gulpes», «volets» (для яблок), «ogresses» и «guzes».

В итоге, термин «roundle» (иначе – «rundle» и «ronde») сохранаяется лишь в случаях многцветной окраски или обременеия его геральдической или иной фигурой. Это касается горностаевого и беличьего мехов, или составленного волнообразными поясами (серебряно-лазоревый называется «fountain», см.). A case may occur also where the field being of more than one tincture and the roundles counterchanged, that term is used for convenience to cover the whole series, though one might be a bezant and another a torteau. Стринные «rondel» или «rondelet» с определением «voided» применяется к фигуре подобной «annulet» или, возможно, аналогичной ей.
