SURMOUNTED, Surmonté. Terms to express any charge having another placed over it. It is also expressed by the term Debruised. P. 7, f. 4.

Surmounted by Термин исп. когда гербовая фигура помещается поверх другой и имеет иной цвет. В случае когда более чем одна фигура перекрыта другой, говорят «поверх всего» (Over all, см.) Необходимо отметить различие в терминах поверх и обремененённый (charged), которое представлено в гербе DYXTON. Если острие обременено стропилом, последнее не выходило бы за пределы первой. Термин м.б. корректно использован для двух фигур размещенных в косой крест, что бы отметить верхнюю из них. (См. Mace, Scythe, и т.д.) Debruised (см.), имеет близкое значение и часто используется также как и термины «depressed» и «oppressed».

- «Gules, a cross patonce or, surmounted of a bend azure semy of fleurs-de-lys of the second» – HUGH LATIMER, Bp. of Worcester, 1535-39.
- «Gules, a chevron chequy or and azure surmounted by a bend ermine» – HANSTED.
- «Argent, a fir-tree growing out of a mount vert in base, surmounted by a sword in bend proper; on a dexter canton azure a royal crown proper» – GREG, co. Chester.
- «Gules, a fesse argent surmounted by a chevron azure[From Burke's Armory]. Gules, a fesse argent, over all a chevron azure[From Papworth's Ordinary]» – BROADHURST.
Указанное выше значение правильное, но не надо упускать из виду, что его нерегулярно применяют в значении обременяющий вверху (charge above), т.е во главе другой фигуры. Это особенночасто встречается в современных гербах Франции, где термины «surmonté» или «sommé» очень часто, если не всегда, имеют имеено это значение. Термин «brochant(or bronchant) sur le tour» во французской геральдике несёт первое из рассматриваемых значений (см. Over all).
