The term does not appear in the standard dictionaries, and is to be found only once in the work, where it is used to describe a letter A. Although the word appears to be etymologically connected with anneau (qv.), I have assumed that it means that the letter is decorated in the same way as similar letters which can be seen as iron supports for walls and chimneys on houses throughout France. This device is similar to a millrind; v. anille.
