ordre - 1. order, or class, as in "ville de deuxième ordre". The differences granted by Napoléon to towns of the various orders were: Premier ordre, equivalent in rank to duchesses, and known as bonnes villes: "a chief gules three bees or", instead of the former three fleurs de lis. Deuxième ordre, equivalent to comtesses: "a dexter canton azure a capital letter N ensigned by a mullet or".
