Escutcheon Escutcheon, Ecusson, (fr.): Escutcheon. (фр.): гералдический щит щиток

(фр. écusson): (1) Гербовый щит, в котором герб описывается. (2) более специализированно – малый щиток small shield, котороых в основном щите помещено более чем один (обычно три). Один щит, помещаемый в середину гербового щита – inescutcheon (срединный щиток). Термин встречается в ранних летописях в разных вариантах. Если в гербе находится один центральный щиток, герб может быть описан как с каймой аналогичного цвета, пример – герб DARCY. В случае если щиток просечённый или сквозной, сейчас это описывается как внутренняя кайма Как правило, щиток изображается намного меньше, чем простравнство, относящееся к кайме.

Escutcheon of Pretence: a shield containing the arms of an heiress, placed in the centre of her husband's arms instead of being impaled with them, is so called.
