chêne-rouvre - Russian oak tree. I have not been able to identify this tree positively. Lar. states that is simply from the OF robre, which is obviously the same as the Eng. oak, and that it is found in dry forests. It is sometimes known as the knotted oak, and is possibly the holm oak, quercus ilex; but, v. chêne-vert. C mentions roure, which he defines as a large oak tree.
