Fountain источник, ключ (англ.), фонтан (фр.). это условная фигура, предположительно представляющее собой колодец или источник воды, и может обычно описываться как круг, в нём 6 волнистых полос серебряных и голубых. Это очевидно, т.к.множество фамилий WELLS имеют в гербах эту фигуру. Имеющие фамилию SYKES также содержат эту фигуру как аллюзию на старое название для колодца sykes. Guillim также отмечает, что шесть фонтанов, имеющихся в гербе у фамилии STOURTON, представляют шесть источников springs, с которых брёт своё начало река Stour в Wiltshire.

Практически термин well иногда используется вместо fountain, но первый должен обязательно быть сложен из камней, т.е. содержать каменную кладку, в то время как геральдический fountain предположительно представляет собой только воду в источнике (колодце). Французский же термин fountaine используется для каменного строения (кладки) со струёй воды в нём.
