Ad vocem

  • «This is cognate with the Eng. wyvern, and in OF was sometime known as woëvre/vouivre. In the medieval bestiaries, the vivre was depicted in three ways:
— 1. a human being with a tail
— 2. a snake
— 3. a two legged monster with a serpent’s body and tail, and the wings of a dragon (the heraldic wyvern)

The third of these was the most common».

Vivre: «Voir Serpent».
